Mathur Commission members resign
Amid controversy, all members of the Mathur Commission - constituted to probe into allegations of nepotism, corruption, scams and abuses of power during the previous BJP regime - have resigned from their posts.

Justice N N Mathur, the Chairman of three-member Commission, former chief secretary Indrajit Khanna and former RPSC member H N Meena have sent in their resignations separately to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot yesterday.

Resignations came in the wake of controversy over constitutional legality of the Commission following the Rajasthan High Court's order over the issue.

Admitting a PIL against the Commission's constitutional legality on January 4, the High Court had held its constitution illegal and asked the state government to entrust its task to the Lokayukta.

Earlier in November, the High Court had stayed the functioning of the Commission.

Besides, the High Court also made some adverse observations against two Commission members in a separate petition a couple of days ago.

The Commission was appointed through an executive order on January 23 last year to probe into charges of abuse of power, losses to the state exchequer, corruption, negligence, irregularities, improprieties and misappropriation of funds between 2004 and 2008 when the BJP was in power in the state.

The term of the Commission was to expire on January 23.
